Dylan promising more after brilliant breakthrough year

LOUTH darts star Dylan Quinn has vowed there is more to come from him after a brilliant year on the oche saw him excel at the PDC Development Tour and at other major ranking events.

Quinn said he is always seeking to improve after he finished the year off as the second best Irish player on the Development Tour, finishing in 28th place on the Order of Merit,  just one place behind Galway's Dylan Dowling.

He also enjoyed a brilliant Killarney Darts Festival earlier this month, making it to the final of the WDF ranked Killarney Open and semi-finals of the Irish Open singles and pairs events.

Quinn told Darts In Ireland that he has developed extra focus and confidence over the past six to eight months and believes he can take on anyone in the game.

He said: "I've put a fair bit of effort in over the past year and know what my goals are.

"I just want to keep on improving every year and there are good markers there that I am doing that.

"I have been playing very well over the past six months or so and that is all built off what I have been doing on the PDC Development Tour."

Dylan said that learning to deal with playing in different environments is also helping to improve his game.

He added: "I wouldn't be the biggest practicer but I have definitely learned how to be more fully focussed and concentrated during my games.

"You definitely learn from playing in all these different environments.

"I find the set up at the Development Tour in England very good and that helps my game. But it can be a completely different environment at an INDO tournament and I am learning how to deal with that.

"I am gaining a lot more belief in my own game and believe I can take on all these other top throwers."

The belief was certainly evident in Killarney as Quinn enjoyed some incredible runs right across the whole weekend.

That includes a run to the semi-finals of the Irish Open Pairs with his partner Killian McCormack on the Friday, before coming through an incredible 10 rounds to play in the final of the Killarney Open later that night.

Quinn lost out in that final to a brilliant performance from Limerick's Michael Flynn, but was back on the stage on Sunday to take on David Davies in the semi-finals of the Irish Open.

He missed eight darts at a double to defeat Davies - the eventual Irish Open winner - when leading Davies 4-1 in that semi-final.

However, Quinn remains philosophical about it all.

"That was certainly a painful one to take, but when you get to that stage of a tournament if you don't take your chances against these guys then they will punish you and that's what David did.

"It was very tough to take at the time, but you live and you learn."

And Quinn believes that it's only really the start for him.

"There will definitely be more opportunities like that for me," he said.

"I am waiting to see if I will play at PDC Q School in January but there is no rush on that.

"I'm still young enough and I still have two years left to play on the Development Tour and I will aim to improve in that again next year."

Meanwhile, Quinn has fired a warning to other counties around Ireland that his Louth team are one to watch out for at next year's INDO Inter Counties championships.

The Louth squad also includes reigning INDO Inter Counties singles champion, Damien Grimes, and former BDO veteran Owen Caffrey.

Quinn said: "We have a very good team in Louth now and we played well at the last Inter Counties.

"That was my first year playing with the Louth team and I knew straight away how good they were.

"We will be looking to really push on at the next one and really compete for it."
