Dean is 'over the moon' to be going Global

DONEGAL darts star Dean Gallagher says he is "over the moon" to have qualified for the ADC Global Championships in Portsmouth next month.

Gallagher will now be vying for the €60,000 first prize having come through a tough field at the ADC Northern Ireland qualifiers in Belfast on Sunday.

He had to beat his Donegal team-mate, Adrian 'Butch' Devine, 5-4 in a nail biting final to claim his spot in the Global Championships, that will be held at the Live Lounge from December 1.

Dean told Darts In Ireland: "It was tough on Butch who missed several match darts to win that final but I thankfully got the bit of luck you need to win these things and I'm over the moon to have made it.

"I had a tough semi-final, too, against another Donegal player in Jordan Boyce, which I also won 5-4, and it was great to see that three of the four semi-finalists were from Donegal."

Having only recently competed at the Live Lounge for the Modus Super Series, Dean says he can't wait to get over there again and prove what he can do.

He added: "It's good that I am familiar with the set up over there and know what to expect.

"My game is in a good place and I know I can compete at this level so I'm really looking forward to it.

"It will be another great experience and can only help bring my game on even more."

Dean says the €60,000 top prize shows just what a big deal the ADC Global Championships will be, attracting many of the best players from around the world that don't have a PDC tour card.

He said: "It's an even bigger prize than the WDF World Championships at Lakeside, but in terms of prestige and the history of it, Lakeside is still the bigger tournament.

"But it's still a fantastic opportunity for a player like me to go and test myself against some of the best in the world."

He will be joined at the tournament by fellow Irish players John O'Shea and Conor Heneghan.

Dean added: "It's great to have a good Irish presence there as it shows how strong our game is now.

"It will also be great preparation forPDC Q School in January.

"I have a very busy end to the year now with the Killarney darts festival this weekend, then the ADC finals in England and now the ADC Global Championships.

"It's busy but it's what I need if my game is going to keep improving."
