Ireland duty calls for Rebecca and Ruby

SHE'S achieved almost everything there is to achieve in the Girls game, but Ireland's number one Rebecca Allen says returning to the Republic of Ireland fold for the WDF Europe Cup this summer will be special.

Rebecca (17) has been ripping it up on the Irish and global darts scene over the past three years, winning the WDF World Masters and World Open last year and competing in the final of the World Championships at Lakeside.

Not to mention also starring on stage at the PDC World Matchplay in Blackpool last July and also winning the JDC Junior Power League in 2025.

But after taking a year out from  the INDO ranking events the previous year, Rebecca said returning this year to top the table and secure her spot on the Ireland team alongside Kilkenny's Ruby Grace  is another notable achievement.

It comes just months after Rebecca also made her debut for the Republic of Ireland Ladies team at the Islands International tournament in Clare.

She told Darts In Ireland: "It's great to be back on the Girls Ireland team as captain.

"The Islands International was great this year as it was my first time playing on the Ireland women's team.

"That felt so special, to be able to do it so young as well."

Rebecca will be joined at the WDF Youth Europe Cup by rising Kilkenny star Ruby Grace after she finished second in the INDO Girls rankings this year.

It caps a remarkable rise for teenager Ruby, who has only been competing at the INDO ranking events over the past 18 months.

She secured her spot on the Republic of Ireland Girls team by winning three of the 11 ranking events, including the Girls Youth Pairs with her partner, Emma Stapleton, at the final ranking weekend in Galway.

Ruby and Emma, who finished third in the Girls rankings,  secured that big win with victory over Rebecca and her partner Brooke Warren in the final.

Rebecca said the emergence of top new young talents like Ruby and Emma is really pushing the Girls game on in Ireland.

She added: "The Girls game is getting stronger in Ireland all the time.

"When I first started there was maybe just me,  Ina Byrne, Zoe Burke and Rachel Ivers,  but there is a good few more now.

"Hopefully if we can keep on winning we can inspire other girls to take up the game. The more they see they likes of me, Robyn Byrne and all the other girls winning big tournaments, they'll want to do it as well."
