Jack on top of the world

TEENAGE darts star Jack Courtney says he's in bonus time after making it onto the Irish Boys team for the WDF World Cup in September.

The Carlow All Ireland winner came into the final INDO rankings event of the season just looking to make it into the top four, and ended up topping the rankings after winning the Irish Classic.

It means he will join Tipperary's Aidan O'Hara as the two players on the Ireland Boys team for the World Cup in South Korea, while Donegal's Shane Porter and Leitrim's Charlie McDermott will also be on the team for the Europe Cup in June.

Speaking to Darts In Ireland, Jack (15) said: "Going into the final weekend I was just looking to get into the top four, so to end up in the top two is a bonus as well.

"I was delighted to win the Irish Classic as well. It's my first INDO rankings win after being beaten in three finals before, so it was good to get the first win."

Last year, Jack suffered the agony of finishing fifth in the rankings to just miss out on the Ireland team, but said he tried to stay focussed on each game to make sure he made it this year.

He added: "I just go game to game, I don't normally even look at the brackets to see who I'm playing next.

"I just take on whoever I'm playing and hopefully try and win that game."

Jack says he's very much looking forward to the trips to Holland for the Europe Cup and then Korea for the World Cup.

He said: "That will be a great experience, especially as we will be travelling alongside the men's team for the World Cup as well.

"I've been playing for a good while now and have finally managed to make it into the top four after just missing last year, so this is special."
