Limerick's Brian pleased with his Division B success

LIMERICK'S Brian Todd says winning the opening night of Division B in the new INDO Players Championships has him dreaming of playing in the WDF World Masters.

That dream is even more sweet given Brian didn't even know a place at the World Masters was up for grabs when he entered the competition.

However, he says that now he is top of the Division B ranking table, he'll be doing all he can to try stay there.

Brian told Darts In Ireland: "I knew that the top two in the division would get an year's product sponsorship from Flight Club, which in itself is great.

"But now that I know there is also two places on offer at the World Masters, that makes it even more special.

"It would be great to qualify for a major competition like that."

Brian, who was part of the Limerick team that won the Munster Championship and made it to the last 16 of the INDO Inter Counties, said he was confident he could do well in the Players Championships,

And he added that he was delighted to be able to back that confidence up by winning the division.

Brian said: "I wasn't entirely sure before it started if I would be in Division A or B but once it was confirmed it was B I fancied my chances as I knew there wouldn't be players in there whose standard would be wildly better than my own.

"But you would often fancy yourself going in competitions like this, but that doesn't mean anything unless you actually go and win the games and thankfully I did."

Brian's run to the final in Division B saw him pick up impressive wins over  fellow Limerick man Lorcan Mullane, Waterford's Sean Cox, Galway's Johnny Bowles and Leitrim's rising star James Rock.

That pitted him in a final against another emerging youngster, Donegal's Jackson Timoney, with Brian coming out as a 5-0 winner, averaging an impressive 77.47 in the process.

Brian said: "I felt pretty good all night so it was great to get such a good run of games.

"The one game I feared I might lose was the quarter final with Johnny Bowles as he's such a steady, calm player.

"He looked like he was about to hit a purple patch in the game so I was happy to get over the line 5-3 in that.

"In the rest of the games I played well in the big moments and that's what got me through. I think that's what you have to do to win these types of tournaments."

Brian said the focus now will be on maintaining his spot at the top of the Division B ranking table.

He added: "It would be nice to stay there now given what's on offer and I will certainly be trying to do that."
