Chris aiming to push on after maiden INDO Players Championship win

KILKENNY darts player Chris Menton says he will aim to push on after winning the opening night of Division C in the new INDO Players Championship.

Chris was in superb form in the Great National Hotel in  Ballykisteen, Tipperary, last Friday night as he won six games on the spin to claim the win.

He now sits top of the Division C ranking table with six points, as he's already opened up a two point gap on his nearest rivals at the top.

Chris told Darts In Ireland that he now hopes this will give him the impetus to stay there throughout the rest of the year.

Chris said: "It was certainly nice to pick up the win, especially given as it was the first night of the whole competition.

"It was great to get to play in so many games and my form stayed steady throughout the night, which I'm pleased about.

"However I just took it one game at a time as you can never tell. You can play great in one game and then not so great in the next, so you just have to keep focussed."

Chris, who starred for the Kilkenny team that made it to the last 16 of this year's INDO Inter Counties A championship, lost just three legs throughout his run in Division C.

He picked up wins over Rian Corcoran, Jayden Barry and Michael Dunne, with the loss of just one leg, to make it to the last eight.

Further wins over Alex O'Toole and Paul Ryan put him into the final against rising Donegal youth star Charlie Doherty.

It proved to be a top class final, with Chris being pushed all the way by Charlie in each leg.

Chris said: "Charlie certainly didn't let me away with much in that final so I was really glad to come out with the win.

"The key was not messing around on the doubles and hitting them, while I managed to block out everything around me and stay in the zone, so I'm really happy with that.

"It will give me good confidence going into the next round of games in the division to know that I can win and it would be great to keep it up now."

Chris also has his eye on gaining one of the spots up for grabs for the division's top two players in the WDF World Masters.

That would be some achievement for a player who has only being playing competitively since March of last year.

"To play at a competition like the World Masters would be incredible so that is a really great opportunity that I would certainly like to achieve.

"It's great for players who are competing in Division C to have an opportunity like that, which they wouldn't normally get.

"It's certainly not an opportunity that I would have thought was possible for myself when I only started playing darts 18 months ago."
