MAYO'S Ultan McDyer has continued his impressive progress in the game by coming through a high quality field to win the Jordan Lonergan Memorial trophy on Saturday evening.
A whole host of the best players in Ireland, including some PDC tour card holders, descended on O'Shea's hotel in Tramore, Waterford, for the tournament set up in honour of late Deise darts player Jordan Lonergan.
Carlow's PDC star Steve Lennon was one notable name in the first round of games as he came through his opening top 128 match with a 5-0 victory over Kevin Dwyer.
His fellow PDC player Dylan Slevin made his entrance in the last 64 as he averaged an impressive 100,20 in his 5-0 win over Oisin Tobin.
It was another Dylan, however, in the shape of Galway's Dylan Dowling who was the star of the early rounds as he averaged a stunning 107.36 in his opening win over Liam Walsh.
Dowling kept his impressive form up, accounting for Ger Doyle, Dave Murphy, Dean Finn and Neilie Brouder on his way to setting up a semi-final with Steve Lennon.
On the other side of the draw, McDyer was busy taking care of business against Jimmy Morrissey, Michael Fraher, Patrick Quinn and Eric Power to set up his semi-final against Slevin.
If Dowling and McDyer were in any way over-awed taking on the PDC players in their sem-finals there certainly didn't show it as both advanced to the final with 6-3 and 6-4 victories respectively.
It was McDyer who then took control of the final early on, winning the first three legs before the next six were shared to leave him with a 6-3 lead in a race to 7.
The Mayo man kept his cool to win the final leg and secure the title with a 90.15 average.
