Dean takes positives from Six Nations ahead of World Cup quest

REPUBLIC of Ireland international Dean Finn said the quality of the Irish team's performances at the Six Nations in Wales last weekend gives him good hope of success at the WDF World Cup in September.

Both the men's and ladies Ireland teams fell short of overall success at the Six Nations as they both went out at the semi-final stages.

However Waterford man Dean said he saw enough from both teams to suggest they are in good shape ahead of the World Cup in South Korea.

The men's team topped a 'group of death' containing giants England and Holland on Saturday, before succumbing 13-11 to Wales in a high quality semi-final on Sunday.

Dean told Darts In Ireland: "We played very well over the weekend and felt we left some legs behind us against Wales, and against England, which was frustrating, but we won't make that mistake again at the World Cup.

"The game against Wales was very tight but I think they took all their chances and didn't leave as many legs behind as we did.

"All three teams we played at the Six Nations are as good as any in the world and we'd be confident that we can catch them at the World Cup."

Dean was part of a five-man Ireland team that also included fellow Waterford player Paddy Quinn, captain Stephen Rosney of Offaly, Donegal's Gerard McGlynn and Monaghan's WDF World Champion Shane McGuirk.

It's the second year in succession that Dean has made the Ireland team by finishing in the top five in the INDO rankings, and he's determined to do it again this year.

He added: "The one big goal I take from this weekend is that I want to be back in the Ireland team for the Six Nations again next year.

"I haven't started the new INDO ranking season in the best of form yet, but I'm getting my focus back and that will hopefully see me do well at the next few events.

"I think it will be the same for the other players on the Ireland team, too. We didn't do much wrong at the Six Nations but just didn't get the results this time.

"England went on and won it but I still genuinely think that we have a better team than them and hopefully we'll get to show that at the World Cup."
