Final heartache for Byrne after brilliant week at Modus

ROBYN Byrne came within a whisker of Modus Super Series glory as she was just edged out in a nail-biting final on Saturday night

The Ireland ladies captain had a dart at double 18 to be crowned the weekly Modus winner for the first time in her career.

However the chance went begging and her opponent Gemma Hayter cleaned up on double top to claim the Modys crown.
It was a bitter moment for Byrne in what has been an otherwise brilliant week for her at the Live Lounge in Portsmouth.
She recovered from a slow start on her opening day to end up topping Grouo B by winning all four of her group games on the second day.
Byrne maintained that form on finals night on Saturday night by starting with a gritty 3-2 win over Six Nations singles champion Laura Turner.

She then survived a massive scare when she fell 2-0 down to Scotland's Sophie McKinley in her second match, which left her on the brink of elimination.
Needing to win the next two legs to avoid that fate, Byrne went one better and won all three to progress to the semi-finals as Group 2 winner.
There she faced the tricky Kirsi Viinikainen, with Byrne holding her nerve superbly to come through that tie 3-1.

That set up the final with Hayter, with her English opponent starting like a steam train by taking the first two legs in just 30 darts.
However Byrne showed the resilience which had gotten her this far by breaking Hayter's throw in the next leg and then holding her own to send the final into a deciding leg.
With Hayter sitting on double top in that, Byrne had a chance to steal the title with a stunning 114 checkout, but just missed the double 18.

That allowed Hayter back in to wrap up the win and secure her first ever Modus Suoer Series win.
