Jack jumping for joy after Masters qualifier win

WATERFORD darts sensation Jack Caulfield has expressed his delight at coming through a tough field to win the INDO Boys World Masters qualifier in Galway at the weekend.

The 15-year-old oche star had to show some real grit to come from behind in a number of games to claim the victory and a spot at the WDF World Masters in Hungary.

It's just the latest achievement for Jack who has been making a name for himself with some strong runs in the INDO's men's ranking events too.

Speaking to Darts In Ireland, Jack said he was pleased and relieved to have won the Boys World Masters qualifier, having come from 2-0 and 3-2  down in his final with Galway's Gavin Murphy to win.

He also came from 2-0 down to win 3-2 in his semi-final with Meath's Aidan Keogh.

Jack said: "I played some decent darts through the weekend. I seemed to just keep going behind in games and then trying to catch up all the time but thankfully I managed it.

"I went 2-0 down in four out of the five of my games in the knockouts but somehow I turned it around."

Jack said that such wins just add to his confidence that he can achieve big things in the game.

He added: "My confidence is really up at the moment and that helps with consistency too.

"The standard in the boys game is really strong. In my final with Gavin Murphy I was sitting on a double after 12 darts but he went in and won the leg in just 11 darts, so that shows you how tough it is."

Jack said he's really looking forward to competing in the WDF World Masters in Hungary in November.

He added: "I was really trying my best to win one of the two spots for that and as soon as the winning double 10 went in during my semi-final I was thrilled."

Jack has also been doing well in the men's events, making it to the last eight of both ranking events at the INDO Gold Cup in May and to the last 16 of the Irish Matchplay on Sunday.

If he keeps that form up, he'll be very much in the frame for the Republic of Ireland men's team for next year's Island Internationals Cup.

Jack said: "I was seeded over the weekend for the men's events and the way I was going in those first two INDOs I thought my first big win was going to come in the men's.

"I'm doing as well in the men's rankings as I'm doing in the boys, which is mad.

"I know on my day I have the game to beat anyone but it's all about doing it when it matters.

"I'm playing a lot of the ADC events midweek now and the JDC rankings on Wednesdays and that is helping to improve my game a lot, especially with doubles."
