THE Mayo pair of Conor Heneghan and Ultan McDyer were the best of the Irish at PDC Challenge Tour 16 in Leicester as they both had strong runs to the last 16.

Both players were in fine form as they won four games on the spin each to show just what they are all about.

Heneghan showed his bottle early on by coming through two last leg deciders in a row in his first times against England's Callum Francis and Germany's Tim Scholz.

He then opened up with his best performance of the day in the last 64 as he averaged 92.34 in a 5-3 win over Stu Wilson of England.

Heneghan averaged just over 90 again as he defeated Alexander Merkx 5-3 to advance to the last 16.

That's where his run ended as England's Charlie Manby got the better of him with a 94.42 average and a 5-1 scoreline.

Heneghan's Mayo team-mate McDyer had a similar run of results as he too hit form at Challenge Tour 16.

Just like Heneghan, McDyer came through last leg deciders in his opening two matches against England's Lewis Pride and Adrian Gray.

His last 64 clash saw McDyer record a 5-2 win over Bailey White, before a 91.49 average edged him over the line against England's Jamie Hughes.

McDyer's run came to an end in the last 16 when he was defeated by England's Joe Hunt 5-1.

Elsewhere, Limerick's Michael Flynn, who is the highest placed Irish player on the Challenge Tour Order of Merit, made it as far as the 64 with a victory over Daniel Humphries, before he was defeated by England's Aden Kirk.
