Dylan relishing challenge after qualifying for Modus Super Series

GALWAY darts star Dylan Dowling says he will relish the opportunity to compete on the Modus Super Series after qualifying through the ADC Ireland regional qualifiers at the weekend.

Dowling was in superb form in Carrick-on-Shannon as he came through a top class field to claim the coveted Modus spot.

He secured his spot with victory in the final over Offaly's Ronan McDonagh, having also defeated Ireland international Ray Mulvey on his way to victory.

The win was sweet  for Dowling after he lost a previous Modus qualifier final to Damien Grimes of Louth.

He told Darts In Ireland how Ronan, who has excelled at two previous appearances of his own at Modus, has already given him tips on what to expect when he plays at the Live Lounge in Portsmouth.

Dowling said: "It will probably be a few months away yet but Ronan has been telling me it's like over there and how to prepare for it.

"I'm over the moon to have qualified for something as big as Modus, especially after losing in the final before.

"That first time I had a bit of a break between my semi-final and final and I put myself under too much pressure thinking about how great it would be to play at Modus.

"So this time I tried to stay relaxed and not focus on that too much and thankfully I got over the line this time."

Qualifying for Modus is just the latest achievement for Dowling, who topped the INDO Development Tour last year and has been performing strongly at the PDC Development and Challenge Tours over the past two years.

He said he hopes that experience will stand to him when he faces the Modus challenge.

Dylan said: "I know I can play to a high standard but the key is to do it consistently across the day when you are playing at these tournaments.

"I feel I have been doing that more regularly lately and playing at the likes of the PDC Development Tour gives you that experience too.

"I know with the quality of players I will be facing at Modus it will be tough, but I plan to make it tough for my opponents too."

Dowling says he hopes playing at Modus will be a springboard for even greater things in his career, as he ultimately aims to win a PDC Tour Card.

He added: "It's a fantastic opportunity, especially for us Irish players, and many of them have done so well at it over recent times.

"Obviously the chance to win a PDC Tour Card is there for all of us too and it's just about grabbing those opportunities."
