O'Shea and Heneghan excel for Ireland at Modus International Pairs

IRELAND stars John O'Shea and Conor Heneghan have put themselves in a strong position to qualifying for finals night at the Modus Super Series Internationals Pairs after an excellent first night in Group B.

The Irish pair won three of their four games to sit second in the table, with the top three to qualify following the final round of group games tonight.

They will be more than happy with that, especially having lost their opening match of the night to the USA pairing of Jason Brandon and Alex Spellman.

However Cork man O'Shea and Mayo's finest, Heneghan, soon put that 4-2 defeat behind them as they got their first win of the night with a 4-3 victory over Sweden's Andreas Harrysson & Anton Ostlund, posting an impressive 92.40 average in the process.

The Irish pair kept their nerve again in their next match to defeat England's Adrian Lewis and Steve Beaton - both former world champions - in another last leg decider.

If that wasn't enough drama, Ireland had to come through their third last leg win in a row when they defeated Group B leaders Canada, made up of Jeff Smith and Dawson Murschell, to leave both teams tied at the top of the table on six points each.

It means two more wins tonight should be enough to see O'Shea and Heneghan into Saturday's finals night, where they will then get the chance to be crowned the International Pairs champions.
