WEXFORD darts sensation Tyler 'The Tiger' O'Connor was one of the big winners at the latest round of the INDO Players Championships in Ballina.

The 13-year-old came through a packed field of players to claim victory in Division C, beating the runaway division leader, Chris Menton, of Kilkenny in the final.

It means Tyler has all but guaranteed his spot in the Players Championship finals next May - when the top 32 players in all three divisions - will battle it out to be crowned champion.

And he will be one of the favourite to land the Division C crown if he continues on his recent run of good form.

His win at the Great National Hotel in Ballina on Friday night was secured with impressive wins over Bronagh O'Shea, Chris Curran, Patrick Mortimer and Donegal's Charlie Doherty.

That put him through to the Division C final with Chris Menton, with the young teenager holding his nerve to come out the 5-3 winner in that.

Elsewhere, Galway's Johnny Bowles was in superb form as he claimed victory in Division B.

Bowles has been consistently in the latter stages of each Division B events, often losing out to the eventual winner.

But it was he who came out on top this time as he defeated the Event 3 winner, Ben Mulvey of Leitrim, in the final.

That came after earlier wins over Kevin Kilcoyne, Jackson Timoney, James Rock and Patrick Sweeney in his semi-final.

Meanwhile, Louth's Damien Grimes has kept his good run of form going with his second Division A victory in succession.

Grimes came through a high-class contest against Galway's Dylan Dowling in the final, securing a 10-6 victory in a game in which both players averaged just over 87 over the 16 legs.

He had earlier beaten Scott Doyle and Sean McKeon on his way to the final.
