THE Republic of Ireland Men's and Ladies teams have learned who they will play in the group stages of the WDF World Cup - and both will be confident of progressing.

The Irish Men's team have been drawn in Group 1 alongside the Netherlands, a team they recently beat at the Six Nations in Wales.

While that will no doubt be one of their tougher ties, the Ireland team, made up  of captain Stephen Rosney, Dean Finn, Gerard McGlynn and Patrick Quinn won't be taking any of their other opponents for granted.

Their group has been made up of entirely European teams, with manager Chris Curran's men also coming up against Norway, Ukraine, Faroe Islands and Liechtenstein.

Speaking to Darts In Ireland ahead of the World Cup, which will kick off in South Korea on Tuesday, captain Stephen Rosney warned against complacency.

He said: "I remember at the last World Cup we were in a group with Cyprus and Luxembourg and thought it was going to be be easy but their players were very good. The standard right across the world is getting better all the time."

Meanwhile, the Republic of Ireland Ladies team, who are the defending champions, have been drawn  in a four-team group alongside New Zealand, Lithuania and Turkey.

Captain Robyn Byrne said she was confident her team, also made up of Katie Sheldon, Denise Cassidy and Aoife McCormack, has a strong chance of winning the World Cup again.

Robyn said: "We have a very strong team going again, with all four players proven competitors who are consistent at big competitions.

"That's exactly what you need if you want to win the team event, like we did last time, and I see no reason why we can't do it again."
