Dean gets debut win on first day at Modus

DONEGAL darts star Dean Gallagher picked up  a debut win in style in what was an otherwise tough day at the Modus Super Series.

Gallagher only had to wait until his second match of the day to secure his first Group A win with an impressive 4-1 defeat of Jamai van den Herik.

The win was completed with a sublime bullseye finish as Gallagher, who qualified for Modus by winning Vault 11 of the ADC Northern Ireland qualifiers, showed his class.

It proved to be the highlight of his day, however, as Gallagher failed to pick up another win despite posting good averages throughout the day.

After opening with a 4-1 defeat to Holland's Jurjen van der Velde, Gallagher soon made amends by posting the same scoreline, but in his favour,  against another Dutchman in Van Den Herik.

Gallagher was unable to gain momentum from that victory, though, as he lost his next match to Group A leader Danny Ayres, nd then fell to a 4-2 defeat to Reece Robinson.

Another 4-2 loss to Jaroen Caron means Gallagher has it all to do tomorrow if he's to stand any chance of qualifying for finals night through Group A.

However a good run tomorrow could at least give him a chance on Wednesday of advancing to Group B, which would improve his chances of making it to finals night on his debut.
