Rebecca ready to rumble at Lakeside

IRISH darts sensation Rebecca Allen admits she is full of confidence as she gets set to take to the Lakeside stage today to compete for the Girls WDF World Championship title.

The 16-year-old Carlow star has enjoyed a meteoric year after claiming the JDC Junior Power League, the WDF World Open, WDF World Masters and qualifying for Lakeside.

She will take on England's Ruby Grey on the Lakeside stage this afternoon for a chance to make it into Sunday's final.

Speaking to Darts In Ireland before she headed off for Lakeside,  Rebecca said:  "After the year I have had, I do feel confident every time I play now.

"I've enjoyed a lot of special moments this year, but I think winning the World Open, the World Masters and qualifying for the World Championships at Lakeside, all in the one weekend in Budapest, was the most special of all."

Rebecca reckons she may be coming to the fore in darts just at the right time, as the opportunities for young girls and women in the game are growing all the time.

Although still only 16, Rebecca already competes on the Professional Dart Circuit's Women's Series and has won Irish ranking women's events.

It means she is now challenging the likes of Ireland's double WDF World Cup winners, Robyn Byrne (28) and Katie Sheldon (21), at the top end of the game in Ireland and beyond.

Rebecca added: "I do feel like there are more opportunities for young girls coming now than there were when Robyn and Katie were my age.

"It's now up to me to take those opportunities and also help to bring the girls game on even more.

"I would love to win this weekend at Lakeside but also I realise that all the other girls have the same chance."
