Dean on top of the world after Modus Super Series win

AN emotional Dean Finn admitted he had no words to describe the feeling of becoming a Modus Super Series champion after he won the final week of Series 12 on Saturday night.

The Waterford man secured one of the biggest wins of his career as he defeated England's Archie Self 4-2 in the final to land the weekly prize.

It means he will return to the Live Lounge in Portsmouth this week for Champions Week, where he will be joined by Northern Ireland's Neil Duff amongst the 12 players aiming to become the overall Series 12 champion.

Finn just missed out on making it to the Series 11 champions week when he lost out in a final to Danny van Trijp, but made no mistake this time as he kept his nerve to defeat Self with a winning double 16.

The Irish international was in tears afterwards, as the enormity of his achievement struck home.

He said: "To be honest, just all year it just hasn't been going my way.

"Every time I come into this building I just do enough. The last time I didn't feel like I did enough and Danny smashed me in the last final but I didn't feel like I played well all that week. This time I played well.

"Jesus, I don't know what to say," he added.

Finn said he is now very much looking forward to competing in Champions Week, even if he now needs to ask his boss for more time off work.

He said: "I said to my father before I came over, 'if I qualify for champions week I'm going to need two more days off work.

"I don't know if my boss is watching, but I'm going to need two more days off work, Ger. Just the Thursday and Friday, that's all."

Finn said making Champions Weeks has brought a spectacular end to his year.

He added: "It's already ended in spectacular fashion as I've been so bad all year.

"I went to the World Cup with the Irish team and we had such a bad World Cup with the men's team.

"I was talking to the manager of the men's team during the week, Chris Curran, and I texted him 'that took so much out of me', as I wanted it so much in the team event.

"I wanted the team event so much and none of us performed and that upset me. Ever since then I was on a downward slope but the minute I walked in this door and threw my first practice dart I thought 'why does this feel so good".
