SOFT tip darts has been popular in Europe for many years and now one man is hoping to grow the game in Ireland.
Portuguese national Diego Correia has lived in Ireland for the last four years and has seen the growing popularity of darts across the country.
He believes this can now be expanded to the soft tip game, especially given the quality of the modern electronic dartboards.
Kilkenny-based Diego got to showcase what these boards are all about at the INDO Matchplay weekend in the Shearwater Hotel in Galway, and was pleased to see so many players giving them a try.
He told Darts In Ireland: "The soft tip game has been very popular in Europe for years and I would have played it in Portugal.
"It's not as popular as regular darts here in Ireland but these machines give people a great chance to see what enjoyable games you can play on them."
As part of Phoenix Darts Ireland, Diego has brought in dozens of the South Korean made electronic dartboard machines, and is now actively seeking venues to hire them out from him.
Diego added: "The venues don't have to buy the machines, they just rent them from me and put them in place somewhere on their premises where customers can play on them.
"Given how much Irish people like playing darts, I'm sure they can be very popular.
"And if the venues that take them on bring in enough money throughout the month on them , then they most likely won't need to even pay any rent on them.
With more than 35,000 electronic dartboards installed across 29 countries, Phoenix Darts is a world leader in the electronic darts sector, ranking No. 1 in global market share.
It's estimated there are 2.67 million players on Phoenix darts machines, with over 1750,000 hours of games played on them.
"And now that it's in Ireland, I'm hoping it can take off here," Diego added.
