New community darts hub hits the bullseye

THERE is little doubting that the popularity of darts is at an all time high across Ireland right now.

Darts enthusiast Brian Doran has seen that first hand as he has kitted out several venues around Northern Ireland with his custom made oches and surrounds with dartboards and scoring systems.

Now Brian, who runs the BVD Darts shop in Newtownabbey, Belfast,  has used those skills to create his own unique darts hub just a few doors down from his shop.

With 13 boards all fitted up with scoring systems - and a separate games room to boot  - the BVD Darts Community Hub is sure to be a winner with kids and adults alike.

The hub will be run by Brian's wife, Lynn, who is sure to be busy following its launch last Saturday.

Lynn told Darts In Ireland: "This will be a great place for kids to come in and spend an hour or two after school and enjoy playing darts with their friends.

"We'll also be able to cater for parties, especially with having the games room too, so there's plenty of options there."

Brian revealed how he got the idea for the darts hub after fitting out some other venues around the country.

He told Darts In Ireland: "I just thought if I'm doing this for other venues,  then why not do my own one.

"There was no darts venue like this in this area so it was the perfect opportunity to do it myself.

"It took about three months in all to fit it out and I'm very happy with how it has turned out.

"It's a unique venue and I'm not sure there's another one quite like it around the country.

"People of all abilities can come in and have a throw at one of our boards."
