WITH some top class talent amongst their ranks, Tipperary will be looking to make a challenge in the latter stages of this year's Inter Counties championships.

Tipp secretary Graham Bell has admitted that it's all been about the shield for his county over recent years, and that they're keen to buck that trend.

Graham told Darts In Ireland: "We'd love to get out of our group this year and play in the knockouts of the main competition.

"We are making good progress and we feel we have the players to do that.

"We will certainly cause a few headaches for a few of the bigger teams."

Graham said the numbers playing at Tipperary trials in growing all the time, too, which he said will be a boost for the future.

He added: "Traditionally we have lost a lot of players in north Tipperary to Offaly, as they live closer to the border there, but this year we have had those players at our trials and that's great for us."

Graham is also confident that the Tipperary ladies team will handles themselves well at the championships.

The Tips ladies made it to the last eight in the shield last year and he reckons they can push on from there.

"Our ladies team has a lot of talent, too, and it would be great to see them perform well this year."
