Longford looking to impress on Inter Counties journey

THERE'S nothing like good preparation to get a team set for a long weekend of Inter Counties action in Killarney.

And Longford manager Peter Reilly reckons they have got that just right as they aim to compete with the big boys at this year's championships.

Peter told Darts In Ireland that he was happy with how Longford performed at the recent Leinster Championships, while four other challenge matches has also helped sharpen his troops.

Peter said: "We played well in the Leinster championships, particularly in the group stages.

"The other challenge games we played also means the players should be well prepared and have their eye in just at the right time."

Longford have bowed out at the quarter final stages of the shield over the past two years, but Peter reckons they can aim for more this year.

He added: "We will be as competitive as we can be at this championships and try to get out of the group, which would be a big achievement given how many strong teams there are now.

"We're getting stronger in Longford also with youth darts improving all the time and the local ADC competitions are a big addition too and are helping to bring our players on.

"That can only be good for the future of the game in Longford."
