Carlow on the cusp of Inter Counties destiny

IF any county epitomises the ever increasing standard of darts in Ireland then Carlow must be it.

All the hard work going on in Carlow came to fruition at the Leinster championships last month when the county won an unprecedented clean sweep in the men's, ladies and youths competitions.

Carlow's Rickey Nolan says they are now keen to transfer that success into the Inter Counties this weekend.

He told Darts In Ireland: "We had a brilliant weekend at the Leinster Championships but none of us expected to win all three events. That was incredible.

"It shows that the work we have been doing with darts in Carlow are all levels of the game is working out and we are really proud of it."

Rickey said the carlow men's team are on the brink of something special.

They made it to the last four of the main cup competition at the Inter Counties two years ago and to the final of the shield last year.

But Rickey reckons there is even more to come.

He added: "The year we made it to the semi-final we lost out in the very last game to Dublin and we really felt like we could have won that.

"We missed out on getting out of the group last year by one point, that's how close the margins are, but we went to the final of the shield.

"So our men's team are used to going far into tournaments now and that is something that should help us this weekend."

And he reckons their Ladies team will also have a big say at there Inter Counties.

Rickey added: "It was really special for our ladies team to win the Leinster Championships and that will give them a huge boost going into this weekend.

"There is a lot of talent amongst our ladies now and I just hope they get to show that in Killarney.:
