Solid start from Shane at Modus Champions Week

SHANE McGuirk won four of his five matches to leave himself very much in contention to win Group A at the Modus Super Series Champions Week.

The Arrow had a solid first day as he picked up eight points to leave himself just two points adrift of the group leader Derek Coulson, with two more days still to play.

Monaghan man Shane began his day strongly with impressive wins over Alec Small and Scott Campbell, losing just two legs in the process, and capping off the latter win with a brilliant two double 19s finish.

He kept the momentum going with a 4-1 win over former PDC Tour Card holder, Mervyn King, to leave him battling it out with Welshman Coulson for top spot in the group.

McGuirk gave himself the chance to claim that top spot when he defeated England's Jenson Walker 4-1, before coming up against Coulson in his final game of the opening day.

However the WDF World Champion's form deserted him in that clash as Coulson ran out a 4-0 winner to take the outright lead in the group.

The pair will face off again tomorrow when McGuirk will be hoping to turn the tables on Coulson and keep his chances of claiming the first automatic spot into Saturday's finals night alive.
