THE Irish pair of John O'Shea and Shane McGuirk have kept their hopes of winning the Modus Super Series International Pairs by qualifying for finals night through Group B.

They went into the final night of Group B action as group leaders, and won the two games they needed to ensure they would progress into tonight's finals.

An early 4-2 victory over Kenya settled the nerves on a night when it wasn't all plain sailing for the Ireland team.

A 4-0 defeat to Germany in their next match meant O'Shea and McGuirk were made to sweat a bit as the group tightened up.

When they went down 4-2 to the Welsh pair of Richie Burnett and Kurt Parry in their third game, despite averaging over 92 between them, the Irish pair knew they needed a win over the Netherlands in their final match to be mathematically sure of going through.

With McGuirk the reigning WDF world champion and O'Shea a former World Masters winner, the Irish pair used all their experience in that final match to pull off an impressive 4-1 win over the Dutch pairing of Jimmy van Schie and Danny van Trijp.

It meant Ireland finished on 10 points to take second place behind Wales in Group B, with the Netherlands also squeezing through in third place.

All three will now join Scotland, England and Belgium for finals night tonight, when McGuirk and O'Shea will hoping to add another exciting chapter to their careers.
