FERMANAGH's Brendan Dolan was a beaten finalist in the PDC Players Championship in Germany today as he enjoyed his best run yet in 2025.
The History Maker won six games on the spin to make it all the way to the final two of PC16 in Hildesheim.
However he proved to be no match for a marauding Ross Smith who won 24 legs in a row in his last three matches and hit two nine dart finishes throughout the event.
Dolan's run to the final began with an opening 6-4 victory over Australian Damon Heta, as he defied a 104 average from his opponent to advance to the second round.
There Dolan defeated German Leon Weber 6-2 and repeated the same shoreline against Madars Razma in his board final.
That put the Irishman through to a last 16 clash with Canadian Jim Long, with Dolan averaging 93 in another 6-2 win.
He kept the momentum going in the quarter finals as he beat Dirk van Duijvenbode 6-3 to advance to a semi-final clash with German Gabriel Clemens.
That game proved to be one of Dolan's toughest of the day, with Clemens averaging just shy of 100, but he kept his nerve with the score locked at 5-5 to win the last two legs and make it to the final.
Unfortunately for Dolan he then came up against an in-form Ross Smith, who had won his perviousl two games without dropping a leg and incredibly repeated the trick in the final.
However Dolan will have been more than happy with his day's work that should see him jumping up the Players Championship order of merit.
