Mansell and Dolan qualify for Euro Tours as host of other Irish just miss out

IT was a good day for Tyrone's Mickey Mansell as he managed to qualify for the two PDC European Tour events up for grabs today.

The Clonoe Cyclone made sure his name will be in the hat for both the Dutch Darts Masters and the European Darts Open after a superb day for him at the PDC Tour Card holder qualifiers.

He will be joined in Germany for the European Darts Open by his good pal Brendan Dolan, after the Fermanagh man also came through the qualifiers.

However there was to be heartache for a series of other Irish players as Willie O'Connor, Steve Lennon and Keane Barry all missed out on the Dutch Darts Open in the very last round.

There was further agony for O'Connor as he also missed out in the last round of the second qualifier, losing a last leg decider to Scotland's Alan Soutar.

It was a better day for Mansell, however, as he came through all his games after opening up with a 101 average in a 6-1 win over Adam Paxton.

His good form continued as he then beat Tom Bissell 6-3 and Darryl Pilgrim 6-5 to confirm his spot at the Dutch Darts Masters.

Mansell wasn't finished there, though, as he went on to win another three games in the next round of qualifiers - this time over Michele Tureta, Bissell again and Mensur Suljovic - to secure his place at the European Darts Open in Leverkusen.

He has been joined there by Brendan Dolan after he beat Rusty-Jake Rodriguez, Jeffrey De Graaf and Karel Sedlacek to claim his qualifying spot.

It comes just a day after Dolan had made it to the final of PDC Players Championship 16.
