Shane storms to top of Modus group

SHANE McGuirk has made a strong start to his latest Modus Super Series campaign by storming to the top of Group B following the first night of action.

The Monaghan man was in superb form as he won his first three games on the trot to set down a marker as he aims to make it to Champions Week for the second series in a row.

The Arrow was only prevented from finishing off the perfect night with four wins from four when he wired double top in a last leg defeat to Carl Wilson in his final match.

However, he is still well placed to make it through Group B with one more round of games tonight.

He sits top of the group on six points after defeating Sam Spivey, Scott Campbell and Lee Cocks, with the loss of just four legs in the process.

He began his night averaging a superb 96.24 in a 4-2 win over Spivey, before a 92.32 average saw him take down Campbell 4-1.

Lee Cocks was his next victim with another 4-1 win, with McGuirk then looking to run the card in his last match with Wilson.

Despite averaging 92.42 and hitting four 180s, McGuirk just came up short in that match as Wilson picked up a crucial win to sit second in the group.

They will return for the final round of Group B action  tonight, when two wins should be enough to see McGuirk qualify for finals night on Saturday.
