IRISH darts stars Ronan McDonagh and Ciaran Teehan have given themselves every chance of qualifying for the Modus Super Sreies finals night after a strong first day of Group C action from the pair.

McDonagh will be the most pleased of the two as he has streaked to the top of Group C after winning four of his five games today.

It means the Offaly man is in a good position to claim one of the two qualifying spots out of the group, as he sits two points ahead of the chasing pack.

It was only a defeat in his last game to Peter Wachiuri that stopped McDonagh from completing a perfect day, and leaves the group wide open with one more round of games tomorrow.

McDonagh began his day with a 4-2 win over Jonathan Platt and then surviving a last leg decider with Darren Johnson to take an early lead in the table.

With his confidence growing, McDonagh then put in one of the performances of the day in a 4-1 defeat of Ivan Springborg Poulsen, in which he averaged an impressive 96.04.

He then ensured he would the day as Group C leader by winning the Irish derby against Teehan, as he recorded a 4-1 win in that game.

For his part, Corkman Teehan also enjoyed a good day and currently stands third in the group, equal on points with second placed Darren Johnson.

Teehan began his day with a whitewash win over Wachiuri, and then held his nerve to win a last leg decider over Springborg Poulsen.

When he defeated Jonathan Platt 4-2 with a 90.69 average, Teehn went into his final two games with a strong shout to be group leader at the end of the day.

However his defeat to McDonagh was followed by an agonising 4-3 defeat to Johnson, to leave him sitting third in the table.

With just two points separating the top four, however, it's still very much all to play for in the second round of games tomorrow.
