IRISH darts star Dean Finn has qualified for the Modus Super Series finals night for the second time in succession following a superb day of Group C action from him today.
The Waterford man won his first four games on the spin to ensure he would still be at the Modus Live Lounge in Portsmouth for the business end of the weekly tournament on Saturday night.
With just two to qualify from a group of six, Finn came into his second round of group games in third place, but within touching distance of a qualifying spot.
He did his chances of grabbing that no harm at all by winning his opening match of the day 4-3 in a nervy affair against Australian Ky Smith.
His next match against England's Graham Jenkins was equally as nerve wracking, with both players tied on the same points in the group at that stage.
Knowing a win would be crucial to advance, Finn once again kept his nerve in a last leg decider to overcome Jenkins 4-3 for the second time this week.
There was still little room for error, however, and Finn ensured he didn't make any with an impressive 4-1 win over Scott Bannerman in his next match.
That win ensured a victory in his fourth match of the day for Finn over Sweden's Par Riihonen would ensure he qualified with a game to spare.
He was in exceptional form in that game, averaging just over 89 as he defeated Riihonen 4-0 to claim his spot in finals night.
All that was left was a game against group leader, David Davies of Wales, to decide who would win the group outright.
Davies got off to a flyer in that, opening up a 3-0 lead before Finn came fighting back to 3-3 and was just edged out by Davies in the last leg decider.
Both will be happy to returning to action for finals night tomorrow night, when Finn will be aiming to join fellow Irish men John O'Shea and Shame McGuirk at Modus Champions week next week.
