Tough day for McGuirk despite nine dart effort in opening game

IT was a tough day at the office for Shane McGuirk as he finished his opening day in Group A of the Modus Super Series Champions Week winless.

The reigning WDF world champion now has his work cut out to make up ground over the next two days and give himself a chance of at least advancing into Group B.

McGuirk looked to be getting into his rhythm early when he nearly took out a nine darter in just the second leg of the day in his opening match with Derek Coulson.

The Arrow had hit seven perfect darts before eventually having to settle for an 11 dart leg to open his account.

However that turned out to be the highlight of his day as McGurik lost that game 4-1.

He lost his next three matches by the same scoreline, as McGuirk unusually just couldn't find a win to ignite his campaign.

His last match of the day also slipped away as he lost 4-2 to Dutchman, Jimmy van Schie, to leave himself four points adrift from everyone else in the group.

However with  ten games still to play over the next two days, McGuirk has every chance of turning it around, starting with a rematch with Van Schie early tomorrow morning.
