TOP Irish darts star Damien Grimes has shown his class by storming to the top of Group A on his debut at the Modus Super Series.
The Louth man won four of his five games to sit comfortably at the top of the table with two more days to play.
Grimes, the reigning INDO Inter Counties singles champion, showed no signs of nerves as he hit the ground running at the Live Lounge in Portsmouth.
He won his opening two games, starting with a 4-2 victory over Jamie Kelling and then repeating the scoreline against Jimmy Van Schie.
Grimes suffered his only defeat of the day in his third match, when he fell 4-1 to a previous Modus champion Jim McEwan.
He didn't let that dent his confidence, however, as he came back with a 4-1 victory of his own over the experienced Steve West.
And he finished off with his best performance of the day with a 4-1 win over Johan Engstrom, with a 92.22 average.
It means he sits two points clear of Kelling and West, and with a healthy leg difference, in the Group A table, putting himself in a strong position to qualify for finals night at his first attempt.
