DAMIEN Grimes has given himself every chance of qualifying for finals night on his Modus Super Series debut after a strong Group C outing from him today.

The Louth man picked up three wins out of his five matches to leave himself in third place in the group, with two to qualify following another round of games tomorrow.

He sits just two points off  group leader Terry Nash and level on points with second placed Jim McEwan and Dan Hands in fourth.

It means it's all still in play for all four players after the first day of Group C action today.

Reigning INDO Inter Counties singles champion Grimes got his Group C campaign off to a flyer when he defeated Richard McKee 4-1 in his opening match, even reeling in the big fish with a stunning 170 checkout in the third leg.

He recovered from a defeat in his second match to group leader Nash to beat Dan Hands 4-2 with an accomplished display of darts that was  just shy of a 90 average.

A 4-1 defeat to Jim McEwan in his fourth match put a dent in Grimes's hopes, but he managed to keep his nerve in his final match with Johan Engstrom to record a crucial 4-3 win that keeps him very much in the hunt for a spot in finals night.
