IRISH darts star Brendan Dolan says he is hoping for a "superb end" to what he admits has a been a difficult year after he advanced to the second round at the PDC World Darts Championships.

The Fermanagh man pulled off a number of sensational finishes, including a Big Fish 170 to win the second set, in his 3-1 win over Tavis Dudney in the first round.

The 52-year-old, who will now face Rayn Searle in the next round, said he now hopes this can be the springboard for a great run at the Ally Pally.

Speaking about his first round win, Dolan said: "I felt at the crucial times, I done the right things. No more so than the 170 at the end of the second set. That was a major moment."

He added: "It's been a difficult year so I could turn this year into a superb year, even though it hasn't been.

"Performance wise it has been brutal, for me personally I think it's been brutal, I expect more of myself.

"I probably savaged my own confidence. Every game I win now will be a confidence booster."

However,  Dolan isn't counting his chickens given his next game is a tough one against the 20th seed Searle.

The History Maker said: "Ryan is going to be so cool so casual, it's going to be unreal.

"For me, I'm going to have to play well as Ryan doesn't play a bad game now."
