BRENDAN Dolan was unable to keep the Irish winning run at the Ally Pally going today as he bowed out in the second round of the PDC World Championships today.
Dolan's exit comes just a day after Limerick's Willie O'Connor and Meath's Keane Barry both advanced to the second round, on the same day that Northern Ireland's World Cup of Darts winners, Josh Rock and Daryl Gurney, did likewise.
Fermanagh man Dolan had been hoping for a "superb" end to his year after he won his opening encounter against Tavis Dudley.
However he was no match for number 20 seed Ryan Searle during this afternoon's session, as the Englishman ran out a 3-0 winner.
Dolan will have rued a series of missed doubles that allowed Searle to wrap up the straight sets win.
Keane Barry will be hoping for better fortune when he plays his second round tie with Germany's Martin Schindler tomorrow night.
Speaking after his 3-0 opening round win over Tim Pusey, Barry said: "I was feeling good in my preparation beforehand so it was nice to go up there and have a relatively stress free night and into the next round."
Barry admitted that Schindler would be a "tough opponent" in the next round.
He added: "I just need to do what I did tonight and just play my game and hopefully on Sunday if I play well enough I'll win."
Willie O'Connor was in fine form after he produced the best performance of the world championships so far, as he averaged 102.36 in a 3-0 win over Krzysztof Kciuk.
The Magpie will need to produce a similar performance on Tuesday night if he is to progress past three times world champion Michael van Gerwen.
Speaking after his first round win, he said: "I am very happy just to get the win as I know Krzysztof is a super player."
O'Connor said he is now looking forward to locking horns with MVG in the second round on Tuesday.
He said: "I haven't had time to process it yet but obviously it's going to be a tough ask against one of the best players in the world.
"I'm going to have to do that again, replicate it, or even a little bit more if I am to win that game.
"Sometimes you need a little bit of luck, but I'll just go up and give it my best."
