IRISH darts star Shane McGuirk has continued his impressive start to life as a PDC professional by qualifying for the European Darts Trophy in Germany next month.
The Monaghan man's latest success comes after he qualified for the first TV major of the year, the World Masters, last month and made it to the last 16 in his maiden PDC Players Championship event earlier this week.
He was defeated by Dutch legend Michael van Gerwen in that, but managed to overcome MVG's compatriot, Wesley Plaisier in Hildesheim, Germany today in his final match to make it through to the European Darts Trophy.
It means McGuirk will return to Germany on March 14 to compete at what will be the second PDC Euro Tour event of 2026.
There was also joy for McGuirk's fellow Irishman, Mickey Mansell, as he qualified for the first Euro Tour event of the year, the Poland Darts Open, which will be held in Krakow next week.
Tyrone man Mansell secured his spot at that with a final game victory over 2023 PDC world champion, Michael Smith.
However there was heartbreak for Carlow's Niall Culleton, as he lost out in his final game to Richie Edhouse for the Poland Darts Open, while Meath's Keane Barry suffered the same fate to Belgium's Mario Vandenbogaerde in his final qualifying game for the European Darts Trophy.
