DUBLIN Ladies captain Robyn Byrne has hailed her team as "heroes" for retaining their INDO Inter Counties title in Killarney last weekend.
Robyn said that winning two-in-a-row for extra special for the Dubs, given none of them had previously won an Inter Counties title.
However she admitted that defending the title put huge pressure on the team and she was glad they were able to handle it.
Dublin's title defence got off to a great start on Saturday when they topped a 'group of death' also containing Leinster champions, Carlow, Munster champions, Waterford, and Connacht giants Mayo and Galway.
The Dublin team, also made up of Robyn's fellow WDF World Cup winner Katie Sheldon, Celine McDonald, Ewa Janowicz, Regina Boyne, AnneMarie Flood, Andrea Mooney and Carnmel McCormack, won all four games ing their group to set up a quarter final clash with Cavan.
They came through that tricky tie unscathed with an impressive 4-0 win, before going on to defeat an equally tough Wexford team in the semi-finals by the same scoreline.
That set up a final showdown with Kilkenny, with Dublin having to come from behind to claim a 4-1 win and their second successive Inter Counties title.
"They are a bunch of heroes," Robyn said of her team afterwards.
"We came down here last year having never won an All Ireland between any of us. So to come back and defend it was huge pressure and something not many of us had experienced before."
However she said the Dublin really showed their class throughout the tournament.
Robyn added: "We played very well on the Saturday to come out of a very tough group.
"Then on Sunday we just pushed on and won all our games in the knockouts.
"I just want to thank the girls for being such a brilliant team and such great dart players."
