Irish eyes are smiling at Modus yet again

ANOTHER week and another Irish winner at the Modus Super Series.

After Cork man John O'Shea's heroics last week, it was the turn of Monaghan's Shane McGurik to lift the trophy on Saturday night and advance to Champions Week.

It's the second Modus Super Series in a row that McGuirk has won his week, and you wouldn't bet against him going all the way this time and winning the series outright.

Especially if the Arrow maintains the form he showed over his three days in Portsmouth.

He certainly seemed to bring his game to a new level this week, and one that he will be hoping he can keep up now as he continues his progress in the game.

Regular followers of McGuirk will know that he will generally average in the mid 90s - the sort of consistent form that won him the WDF world championship title at Lakeside last year.

However he has shown he has extra levels too, once hitting a staggering 119 average on the PDC Challenge Tour.

And this week at Modus he recorded numerous ton-plus averages and always looked like he would be the most likely winner.

Sitting top of Group B on Friday night, McGuirk hit three ton-plus averages in his four games to advance to finals night as the runaway winner of the group.

However on finals night last night he showed he could recover from adversity, too, after losing his opening match of the night to Scotland's Scott Campbell.

With no room for error from there, McGuirk knuckled down to pick up the crucial win he needed over David Sharp to advance to the semi-finals.
With that hurdle out of the way, McGuirk made light work of Jamai van den Herek with a 4-0 win in the semis, before saving his best for last in the final with Kurt Parry of Wales.
The WDF world champ averaged an impressive 103.29 in that final, taking out a stunning 164 finish along the way, as he beat Parry 4-1 to lift the weekly trophy for the second time.

It won't be the last trophy he lifts on this form.
