Cavan craving strong Inter Counties run after recent success

THERE'S nothing like a bit of success to breed confidence into a team heading into the INDO Inter Counties championships in Killarney.

The Cavan men's outfit are one such team as they will be keen to build on recent successes at this year's championships.

The Cavan men were recently crowned the 2026 Fairways Cup champions, defeating local rivals Monaghan and Louth on their way to lifting the title.

Cavan's Dylan Tuite told Darts In Ireland how he hopes this can now spur the county on as they aim to go far at this year's Inter Counties.

Dylan said: "It was great to get that win in the Fairways Cup as it does give the team some confidence.

"We had a challenge match with Longford that we won also, so they are all good signs leading into the Inter Counties,"

Dylan said a strong performance in the group stages is the first target for Cavan.

"We will go in there with the aim of trying to top our group and then at least make it to the quarter finals as that would mean we would be a seeded team for the following year.

"For a county like Cavan you have to make the most of a good run if we do go on one as it can set you up for a couple of years if you get it right."

Cavan also now has youth on its side, with a number of quality young players coming through the ranks, including Dylan's younger brother, Evan, who was recently crowned the Cavan county singles champion.

Dylan added: "It's good that we have these young players coming through onto the county teams now and it can only make us stronger in the long term."

In the ladies section, the Cavan team will be one to fear as they regularly go far into the latter stages of the Inter Counties.

With the likes of Ireland international Teresa King and serial winner Paula Smith amongst their ranks, the Cavan Ladies will be one to watch in Killarney.

Having won the West Coast Challenge two years on the trot, the Cavan Ladies just missed out on the three-in-a-row this year after they went out in the quarter final stages.

But Dylan reckons that may just make them more dangerous at the Inter Counties.

He said: "Cavan always has a strong ladies team and this year will no different. They have every chance of going far into the tournament.

"It would be great to see them win it as they have got so close in the past and would deserve that success."
