Kerry in the running for Inter Counties success

ALL the recent signs are showing Kerry are making huge strides in darts and both their men's and ladies teams will be ones to be feared at this year's Inter Counties championships.

It's why Kerry's John McCarthy reckons it's going to take a good team to stop them when they take to the oche at the INEC Arena this weekend.

A run to the last 16 for the men last year shows Kerry's potential, but John told Darts In Ireland there is more to come from them.

"We have a very talented men's team now and if we all click then were are going to be very difficult to beat.

"We have a good mix of experienced lads and some of the younger ones coming through now too."

John said that playing the competition in Killarney can prove to be of benefit to the Kerry teams.

He added: "It might be an advantage for us in that other teams are maybe on the road from very early in the morning to get to Killarney.

"It also gives us an extra impetus to do well as it is being held in our home county.

"There is also a lot of potential in this Kerry team and you do get the feeling that with a bit of luck we can go far."

John is equally optimistic about the chances of Kerry's Ladies team after their recent run to the final at the Munster Championships.

That comes on top of the Kerry Ladies winning the shield at last year's Inter Counties.

John said: "Our Ladies is in great form and have proven they can compete at a high level and succeed.

"I think they will do very well this year as the confidence is high.

"Both our Ladies teams did brilliant at the Munsters, with the Kerry Ladies B team also winning the shield.

"That shows that Ladies darts is strong in Kerry now."
