Meath in the mix for Inter Counties glory

Meath are one of those counties that are always in the mix when it comes to competing to win  an INDO Inter Counties men's title.

However it's been over six years now since the team last tasted success and that's something that manager Will Pender says they are keen to try rectify this year.

A run to the last eight in last year's competition means Meath will be one of the seeded teams in this year's draw, and Will says they will be at least aiming to try top their group and then take it from there.

He told Darts In Ireland: "Our trials went very well this year and we had big numbers at them, which is always a positive.

"So our team is looking strong this year and we have a few lads coming into form at the right time for us.

"We've had some good competitive action too, playing at the Leinsters in Wicklow last month, so we feel like we are well prepared for it now."

While they will be relying on a few old stalwarts, Meath also have a number of strong youth players coming through the ranks which Will said will make them even stronger in the years to come.

He has praised Meath legend, and former PDC star, James Keogh with helping to bring the youth game on in the county.

Will added: "James has done brilliant work with the youths and has put a lot of effort into it and that is going to be a big boost for darts in Meath.

"In terms of this year's Inter Counties, we are ready to put a big effort in and at least match last year and make the quarter finals and then try to push on from there.

"It would be nice for Meath to get back to a final."
