Waterford aiming high for Inter Counties

AFTER a strong showing at the Munster Championships last month,  Waterford are another county with hopes of Inter Counties success on the double this weekend.

The Waterford Ladies team excelled at the Munsters in Clare, winning the team event, while Jade Lonergan was also crowned the Ladies singles champion.

Waterford manager Vinny O'Brien told Darts In Ireland that this was a sure sign that they will be right in the mix at the business end of the Ladies Inter Counties this weekend.

Vinny said: "We have a very good Ladies team now who did brilliant at the Munster Championships,

"It was great for Jade to win the singles outright first, but then for the whole team to go on and win the event too was special.

"It just shows how good they are and it will take a very strong team to stop them this weekend."

While the Waterford Ladies were overjoyed with their success, Vinny admitted the men were disappointed to lose out in their Munster Championship final to Cork.

However he said the high standard in that game shows Waterford are capable of a very strong run this weekend too.

Vinny said: "It's disappointing to lose any final but everything over the past couple of years shows that our men's team are making huge progress.

"We have players who play now at the very top level all the time and that will stand to us too.

"We are a seeded team this year also, which might help in the draw, but no matter who you get now it will difficult and we will have to be ready for it."
