DARTS is so often a game of fine margins and Westmeath know that only too well after losing out in a last game decider in the semi-finals of the Inter Counties shield last year to eventual winners Roscommon.
With a bit of extra luck this year, the Westmeath men may taste success themselves as they look forward to an action-packed weekend in Killarney.
It's why Westmeath's Mark Corrigan reckons his team can do themselves proud in what he says is now a "crazy standard" of darts in Ireland,
Mark said: "We're here to do the best we can for Westmeath and the good thing is that everybody is throwing well.
"We played at the Leinster Championships last month and I felt while things didn't go our way at that as a team, we still played some good darts and if we stick together things can go better for us this weekend.
"It would be great to get out of the group this year if we can, but it's a crazy standard in Ireland now."
Mark said the improving standards in Westmeath is being driven by a growing Youths game in the county.
He added: "In fairness we do have some very good youth players coming through in Westmeath now and that can only be good for the future.
"We have some very talented players on our team, especially with the likes of Jason Waters and Cormac Foley doing well.
"So things are going in the right direction in Westmeath."
