Roscommon eyeing more silverware after shield success

ROSCOMMON have been on a bit of a roll over the past few years at the Inter Counties and will be aiming to keep that going this weekend.

After making it to the semi-finals in the main cup competition just two years ago, the Rossies returned last year to win the shield in a brilliant final with Carlow.

Now one of the county's top players, David Concannon, has said they are keen to keep up that momentum as they look to go into the latter stages once again.

David said: "We have a different team this year with a few new players but hopefully we will be able to go well again.

"It was nice to win the shield last year but the year prior to that we had made it to the semi-finals of the main championships so that shows what we are capable of.

"We have a good youths system in Roscommon now too and this is  bringing through some very good young players which will only make us stronger."

The Roscommon Ladies team will also be looking to improve on their run to the quarter finals of the shield last year.

David added: "Out ladies our coming on and will give a good account of themselves this year.

"It can be tough to get out of the group in the Ladies section with just two qualifiers but our ladies will give it a good go.

"Darts is in a good place in Roscommon and hopefully we will get too show that again this weekend."
